Mamie Mary Fanger of St. James, Mo. passed away at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. on Monday, January 30, 2012. Mamie Fanger was 94 years, 11 months, and 12 days of age.
Mamie Fanger was born in Hinkle, Mo. on February 18, 1917 to her parents: Ben and Ola (Hughs) Gross. On July 19, 1932 Mamie was united in marriage to Leo Fanger in Phelps County, Mo.
Mamie Fanger helped her husband Leo farm on their cattle farm for many years. Mamie also raised chickens on the farm. She loved to can vegetables out of her garden and also to can fruits. She was an avid seamstress; made her own patterns. She love to do crafts, afghans and to quilt. Mamie worked at the Shoe Factory in Rolla, Missouri for several years; Mamie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother; great-grandmother; great-great-grandmother and friend.
Mamie Fanger is survived by four daughters: Grace Engelmeier and husband Mel of St. James, Mo.; Irene Gorman and husband Louis of St. James, Mo.; Mary Stotler and husband Bill of St. James, Mo.; and Betty Happel and husband Pete of College Place, Washington; along with nine Grandchildren; sixteen Great-Grandchildren; and eight Great-Great-Granchildren; and a host of family and friends. Mamie Fanger will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mamie Fanger is preceded in death by her husband: Leo Fanger; parents: Ben and Ola (Hughs) Gross; granddaughter: Brenda Happel; one infant; and one sister: Daisey Thomas.
