She was born in Bath on January 24, 1928, a daughter of Clifford D. and Gladyce A. (Higgins) Walsh. She attended Bath schools and in 1946 graduated from Morse High School. During high school she was employed at A & P in Bath. On October 15, 1946, she married Willard H. McCabe.
