Madeline Marie (Hostens) Tempelaere, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2022, at the age of 95. Madeline was proud to be born in America, but her father decided to move his young family back to Belgium because of the Great Depression. Madeline moved back to Michigan with her husband and 3 children in the 60’s. She watched TV to help her with her English and had a very understandable, beautiful accent! She loved music and played the piano. Madeline knitted proficiently – she could make 2 socks at the same time and both sleeves of a sweater at the same time, “why do I want one, and now they both match perfect”. She loved to read, traveling, her family, good food and sweets, especially Belgian chocolates. She was a very good cook. She loved classical music and dancing, but joked that her husband couldn’t dance. She loved to test drive fancy cars with him and his frequent practical jokes and sense of humor. She was a very social person and was very energized around people. She was a favorite resident at the assisted living facilities she lived in and loved by all. She will be very dearly missed by so many here and now a favorite resident on the other side of eternity!
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, Karel “Charles” and Laura (Segaert) Hostens; husband, Andrew Tempelaere; son-in-law, Michael Burrows; grandson, Matthew Tempelaere; siblings, Hilaire (Agnes), Maria (Raymond), Valare (Denise), Sister Elizabeth, Aurel, Paul (Christian), Cecile (Julien), Antoon I, Antoon II; brother-in-law, Marcel; and nephews, Luc Adam and Marc Adam. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Marleen Tempelaere (significant other, Ted Hanner), Johan (Susan) Tempelaere, and Katrien Burrows; grandchildren, Aaron Tempelaere (significant other, Kami Larripa); Bethany Erickson (significant other, Sarah Tyria), Emily Tempelaere (significant other, James Parsons), and Eric Tempelaere (significant other, José Teixeira); great-grandchildren, Ava Tempelaere, Scout Tempelaere and Luke Larripa; sister, Lutgarde; and also many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
