Obituary for Mabel 'May' R. Spiering

Mabel (May) Rosena Spiering, the daughter of Carl and Margaret (Erickson) Edberg, was born on September 16, 1906 at Wannaska, Minnesota. She was one of 11 children which are deceased. She attended Edberg School and in the 1920’s she left the Edberg farm and worked in North Dakota for a short time. She then moved to International Falls along with her sisters, Mildred and Alice. She married Joe Pellen in International Falls and they lived in Healy and Juneau, Alaska in 1941. They were co-owners in a 300 room hotel in San Francisco in the 40’s. They also lived in Tucson, Arizona and in Ely, Nevada during those years. They bought the Merrill Hotel in Merrill, Oregon in 1946. Joe was killed in a car accident later that year. In 1948 May married Don Spiering. May continued to operate the Merrill Hotel after Don passed away. Sometime in the late 80’s she sold the hotel but she continued to live in the hotel. She spent several winters in Yuma, Arizona where she had a mobile home in Palm Gardens Court. She moved to an adult foster home in Klamath Falls, Oregon where she passed away on May 21, 2007 at the age 100 years, 8 months and 5 days.

May had a big heart and was very generous with her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all. May she rest in peace.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, ten brothers and sisters, Gerda Olson, Emma Larson, Mildred Torfin Freda Monsrud, Gunder Edberg, Alice Jernberg, Bill Edberg, Walter Edberg, George Edberg and Georges twin sister, Florence that passed away shortly after she was born.
