Lyndon Luren Lane, 91 of New Harbor, died Saturday afternoon, July 6, 2013 at his home. Born on March 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Perley and Flora (Morton) Lane, Sr. Lyndon began lobstering with his father in 1932, at the age of ten, out of Pemaquid Harbor. He graduated from Bristol High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He became a Radioman 2nd Class and served on the minesweeper “U.S.S. Modoc C.G.” in the North Atlantic and in Labrador until 1946. Lyndon married his sweetheart, Elizabeth Blaisdell from Bristol, Maine in 1950. They raised two sons, Albert and George, and taught them how to lobster. He also built lobster boats and enjoyed carving decoys. On April 15th 1967, his boat capsized on a ledge near Pumpkin Island, ten miles off of Pemaquid. He grabbed his life jacket and swam to Pumpkin Island, where he wrung the water out of his clothes and put shag nesting grass inside his clothes for insulation.
