Lucy Kishigian passed away on August 15, 2018 in Taylor, Mi. She was born in Detroit on October 20, 1924, the daughter of Setrag and Margaret (Arakelian) Rahanian. Her older brother Ashod was born in Armenia, and along with his parents they emigrated to the United States during the Armenian genocide. Her younger sister Ann was also born in Detroit. Growing up during the great Depression motivated her to succeed in life. Lucy attended Southwestern high school, where she excelled at typing and shorthand. While still in school she was recruited by the Detroit Board of Education and began working there upon graduation. On New Year’s Eve 1945 Lucy attended a party with her date. This is where she met her future husband George, who asked her to dance. When he asked her to dance again, she said – I can’t dance every dance with you, I came with someone else. Despite that, George and Lucy married 13 months later.
