Lucille Carol Braaten, age 92 of Virginia died Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Edgewood Vista Memory Care Unit in Virginia. She was born on December 25, 1922 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the daughter of Harold and Clara (Halversen) Hendrickson. She attended the Eau Claire schools and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1944. Following graduation she taught high school in Spencer, Augusta, Altoona, and Woodville, Wisconsin. She did graduate work at American University, Washington, D.C. and Bemidji State University. She married LaVerne A. Braaten on June 5, 1949 in Eau Claire. They lived in North Dakota before moving to Virginia in 1954. While living in Virginia she was a Junior High School Librarian from 1965-1975.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Mary Circle, and the Quilters Group, a former Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 121, a Sunday School and Release Time teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Mesabi Ski Club at Lookout Mountain, the Sons of Norway, and the Solonlag.
Lucille is survived by sons: David of Marshall, MN, Mark (Karen) of Bullard, TX, and Bruce (Paula) of Winona, MN; grandchildren: Amber, Christopher, Cassaundra, Anneliese, and Anders; sister: June Padgham of Madison, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: LaVerne, and siblings: Jerome, Hens, and Vi.
