Louise Margaret Kistler of Lyons, Michigan passed away peacefully on November 8, 2013 at the age of 95. She was born in Pewamo, Michigan and graduated from Pewamo High School in 1936. She attended one year at County Normal Teacher’s College, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees from Western Michigan University. She began her teaching career in a one-room school, and subsequently taught in Hubbardston, Muir, and several of the Ionia Elementary Schools. She completed a remarkable career in public education as the Principal of Jefferson Elementary School in 1984. Mrs. Kistler was devoted to her family and her career, and enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, and participating in the Lyons-Muir Historical Society. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia. Mrs. Kistler was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Florence Vance of Pewamo; grandson, Erik Birzgalis; sister, Janet Rathburn; nephew, Bruce Rathburn. She is survived by her children, Sharon J. Grobbel of Lyons, Susan K. Birzgalis of Hartland, Sara L. Kistler of Clearwater, FL, and Michael J. Kistler of Savannah, GA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jacqueline Muller of Savannah, GA, Peter Grobbel of Lyons, Jody Chick (Greg) of Yellow Springs, OH, Adam Birzgalis of Chicago, IL, Katherine Chancy (Cal) of Savannah, GA, Joseph Kistler (Jen) of New York, NY, Patrick Kistler of Savannah, GA; great grandchildren, Erika Chick, Ian Chick and Olivia Chick of Yellow Springs, OH, Jack Muller and Lillie Kate Chancy, both of Savannah, GA, and nephew, Robert “Butch” Rathburn (Carol) of Hubbardston.
