She graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1933, and continued her education at Gates Business College in Augusta. She carpooled to Augusta with a young man from New Harbor, Kendall P. Hanna, who later became the love and devotion of her life. They were married on October 18, 1944, and first set up housekeeping on School Street in Augusta. Louise was employed by the former Depositors Trust Company in Augusta, and worked with the bank until her first child, Justin, was born in 1945. Her second child, Roberta, was born in 1948, and the family moved to the home they would share for 52 years at 24 4th Avenue in Augusta. Louise was devoted to the raising and caring of her children for 16 years, then returned to full time employment with the American Baptist Convention of Maine, rising to the position of Executive Secretary to the Director before retiring in 1973. She enjoyed arts and crafts, furniture refinishing, and taking care of “camp” on Dyer Pond in So. Jefferson during retirement. She was an accomplished artist, and during retirement furthered her fine arts education. She enjoyed the realism representation, and preferred media in charcoal and oils. She was also an active member of the Jefferson Grange/Lincoln Pomona, holding several officer positions throughout her years of service there. Louise was a lifelong member of Penny Memorial United Baptist Church of Augusta, holding chair positions of various internal committees within the church community over the years, including teaching Sunday School. Music appreciation was always an important part of Louise’s life, with her participation in the Penny Memorial Church choir, and celebration of the Spirit of Christmas with the annual Living Christmas Tree choir. She was a member, along with Ken and her children, of the American Legion Band of Augusta, Post #2, efficiently holding down 4th chair seat of the horn section. Louise is predeceased by her husband, Kendall; and her sisters, Dorothy Chapman, Muriel Dennis, and Constance Freeman; and her beloved daughter-in-law Catherine Hanna of Portsmouth, N.H.
