Lottie A¡A§VlastaA¡A Jean Svoboda, 86, passed away at the Greenbush Community Nursing Home, Wednesday, August 30th 2006.
Lottie was born September 14, 1919 in Badger MN to James and Anna Svoboda. She grew up on the Svoboda farm in Barnett Township area of Roseau County and attended Stoffel School District 23 through the eighth grade. Lottie and many of the students spoke Bohemian and Lottie retained her ability to speak, read and write in her familyA¡A¦s native language throughout her life.
Lottie married Orville Scharf on October 17, 1945 and they farmed in Ross Township Northeast of Badger.
Lottie loved to sew and bake, always collecting and trying out new recipes. Poppy seed filled kolaches and blue plum dumplings were some of her best Bohemian delicacies. Lottie raised chickens and sold eggs to GlenA¡A¦s Produce and to local customers for many years.
Lottie is survived by her children, Sharon (Gary) Grugel of Moorhead, Curtis (Diane) Scharf of Badger and Kent Scharf of Badger; six grandchildren, Gene (Jodi) Grugel, Todd Grugel, Pam Grugel, Tracy Scharf, Cory Scharf, Casey Scharf: seven great grand children, Kelly , Jace, Sam, Raven, Ashton, Jordan and Mason and sisters, Rose Wojchowski, Georgianna Gust and Anne Randall.
Lottie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James, Jr. and her husband, Orville. LottieA¡A¦s spirit was weary and her arithritic body was tired. It was time to leave. She said, A¡A§Dĕkuji. DubrÆ’cÆ’co nuts.A¡A (Thank you. Good-bye.
