Lorraine Maryann Olson, the daughter of Mable (Wicklander) and Clarence Ostby, was born on April 5, 1925 in Roseau County, Minnesota. She went to school for two years in the rural school system. The family then moved into Roseau where she entered the third grade. In 1942, the family again moved, this time to Auburn, Washington, where Lorraine graduated from high school in 1944. In 1945, the family came back to Roseau. She and Lorine Olson were married on October 20, 1948 and raised two children. Lorraine started working as a nurse’s aide, in the Budd and Warroad Hospitals. In 1947, she started working for Roseau County as Deputy Clerk of Court. After taking a few years off, she resumed working there until her retirement in April of 1984 after twenty years of service.
Lorraine enjoyed restoring and making dolls, and sewing clothes to dress them. She and Lornie also loved to travel, research family history and were members at the Messiah Lutheran Church.
Lorraine Olson passed away on August 11, 2006 at the Roseau Area Hospital at the age of 81.
She is survived by her husband, Lornie of Roseau; children Leslie (Renae) Olson of Loveland, CO and Lori Olson of Roseau; 2 grandchildren, Ryan (Barb) of Meridian, ID and Derek of Ft. Collins, CO; great-grandson, Matthew of Meridian, ID; sisters, Hilda Walker of Portland, OR and Wanda (Jerry) Weber of Virginia, MN; and a brother, Maynard, (Vivian) Ostby of Littleton, CO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stanley, Milton, Ruben and Donald; and a sister, Mavis.
