Loren Leigh Engelstad was born on the Scheie family farm in Warren Minnesota to parents Clifford and Ethel Engelstad on May 30, 1938. He was the oldest of three boys born to the Engelstads. Loren passed away on November 23, 2020, at the age of 82.

Much of Loren’s childhood was during WWII, where he remembered the time spent with his parents at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. His family later returned to Minnesota following the war, and Loren graduated from Warren High School, Class of 1956. Loren met and married Donna McGregor in 1959, to whom he was married for twenty seven years. Loren went on to graduate from Bemidji State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962, and a Master of Education degree in Science in 1964. Well known for his excellence in teaching, Loren taught at Merced High School and Merced College (1965-1975), and Livingston High School (1975-1999). He later continued his love for teaching as a Science Professor at Chapman University (1999-2003) and the University of North Dakota (2004-2007).

In addition to his love for education, Loren enjoyed a passion for hunting and training champion English Pointer bird dogs for many years. With his son Jay Engelstad, Loren entered numerous champion dogs in field dog competitions. His other hobbies included fishing, golf, and many years singing Barbershop Harmony.

Loren is survived by his love of 22 years, Linda Kaye Edgar of Warren MN; daughter, Dee Ann and Lou La Rocque of Merced CA; and son, Jay Engelstad of Temple TX. Loren is also survived by his brother, Lee Engelstad of Thief River Falls MN; his four grandchildren, Daniel and Andrew Acevedo, Tiffany Shoemaker, and Brittany Davis; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Loren is preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ethel (Scheie) Engelstad, and brother Jim Engelstad.
