Lois Miriam (Brickley) Davis was born on November 4, 1920 in Ionia to Fred and Deck (Samain) Brickley. The family always lived on Kelsey Hwy in Ionia. She attended the Steele County School and graduated from Lakewood High School. Mrs. Davis has always been a farm girl who loved small and large animals. The farm she lived on was bought in 1867 by her retired great-grandfather, who was ship Captain on the Great Lakes. Mrs. Davis’ grandfather built the home in 1913. At the time Lois’ folks lived across the road. The house is no longer there. Lois’ great grand-father and father built the large red barn in 1903. It is still standing and is one of the largest barns in Ionia County. Mrs. Davis had a brother, William who lived in Ionia and also a sister, Adabelle, who died in in 1945. Lois has many wonderful memories of her childhood days. She traveled with her father every chance she got. Her father, Fred was a Justice of the Peace, an insurance inspector and on the Co-op Board as well as a full-time farmer. Her mother, Deck cooked a large part of her life for her family and the hired help. Mrs. Davis met and married Harold Davis on July 4, 1957. Harold moved on the family farm and became a farmer always having help and advice from friends and neighbors. Mr. and Mrs. Davis have been life time members of LeValley Church on Kelsey Hwy. They and their pet dogs have spent many years in New Port Richey, FL starting in 1964. Harold passed away on February 12, 2001. In 2007, Lois lost her hearing totally. With the help of Tom and Lucinda Green plus some caregivers, Lois was able to stay at home. Almost 5 years ago, she fell at home and broke her hip. she has been at Heartland Healthcare in Ionia ever since. Surviving are a step-son, James (Kathy) Davis and their 2 sons and families; a niece, Kathi Dodds and a nephew, Roger Davis.
