FALMOUTH – Lois Gardner, 83, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2014, at Sedgewood Commons. Lois was born in Manhattan, New York on February 27, 1930, to Robert and Agnes (Cunningham) Lochhead. She grew up in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan as an only child of Scottish immigrants.

Lois graduated from George Washington High School in Manhattan. After high school, she met the love of her life, George, at a dance in New York while he was home on leave from the National Guard. They were engaged at Christmas and married on Valentine’s Day in 1959.

Lois was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in junior high school. She then worked for Sperry Rand and Unisys on Long Island, NY, in the employee benefits department. She retired in 1992.

Lois has always been an active member in church where she worshiped Jesus, her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portland and enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as a deaconess. She was involved with her small group Bible study that met in her home and the Senior Connections group. Lois and her husband George also enjoyed volunteering at The Root Cellar in Portland for five years.

Lois enjoyed travelling with her husband during their retirement years to locations such as Scotland, England, Wales, Bermuda, Hawaii, and many different areas of the US and Canada.

Lois is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, George. She is survived by their two children, Nancy Schorschinsky and husband Bob of Auburn PA, and Bob Gardner and wife Sallie of Falmouth. She is also survived by her five precious grandchildren who brought her much pride and joy: Bruce and Grace Schorschinsky, and Scott, Michael, and Adam Gardner.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sedgewood Commons for their compassionate care over the past year.
