Lillian Nelson of Malung, the daughter of Anna (Annie) Kotrba and Thomas Patrick Kelly passed away on Wednesday, October 18th, at Sheltering Oaks Manor in Roseau. Lillian Kelly Nelson was born on October 4, 1913. She attended grade school in District #2, north of Greenbush, and graduated from Greenbush High School. She completed teachers training in Warroad, MN, and taught for one year in District 25 near Greenbush before she attended Moorhead State College and received a teaching certificate. In the fall of 1935 she returned to teaching at the Brandt School in Malung. On December 29, 1939, she and Iver Nelson were united in marriage at the German Lutheran Parsonage in Roseau by Reverend Borchert. They purchased 80 acres of farmland from Oscar Lisell in Malung, where Lillian lived most of her life. Lillian continued her education through off campus coursework at Moorhead State and Bemidji State, and completed her education in 1964 when she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. Lillian taught for 35 years in Malung, Dewey, Falun and America Townships. After her retirement she went through bailiff training and helped as a Roseau County Bailiff for about ten years.
