Anchorage, Alaska – Lewis Eben Maxell, 95, died on Jan. 14, 2010, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Lew was born December 4, 1914, in Portland, the son of Eben and Emma Libby Maxell. He was educated in the Portland School System, graduating from Deering High School Class of 1933. He was employed by Oakhurst Dairy in sales and management positions for 42 years, retiring in 1980.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Temporary Reserve. He was active in the PTA and in Scouting. He wad a member of several Masonic Organizations, was a Past High Priest of Hiram Chapter #70, R.A.M., and a Past President of the Bath Lions Club. He enjoyed photography, fishing, camping, golf and travel.
Lew was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Edna R. (Harris) Maxell; his second wife of 14 years, Barbara Watson (Ryan) Maxell; his sister, Ruth M. Gallupe and brother, Sidney L. Maxell.
He spent his later years at East grand Lake, Orient, in Plaistow, N.H., and in Zephyrhills, Fla. He moved to Anchorage in 2003 to be with his son and daughter-in-law.
He is survived by his son Robert and daughter-in-law, Catherine Maxell of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandsons and two great-grandsons. He is also survived by Barbara’s children, Stephen, Mark and Christopher Ryan and Mona (Ryan) Francis; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
His ashes will be interred with his first wife Edna’s urn and a Starfish containing ashes of his second wife Barbara.
