Age 78, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 24, 2012. He was born on February 14, 1934, the son of Walter J. and Veronica Martin. Leroy attended grade school at St. Patrick’s through the 8th grade, then Portland High School. After graduation, he served for 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, much of that time as an airplane mechanic in Alaska. He then returned to Portland and was employed by Diamond-Reo of Lansing for 16 years, and by Integral Engineering for 19 years. He has been a life-long member of St. Patrick’s Parish, and a member of the Machinist Guild. After retiring, he enjoyed collecting guns and building models of steam and radial engines. The family will be donating most of his engine collection to the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum in Lansing and Air Zoo Aviation Museum in Portage. Leroy is survived by his sister, Joyce Wells, his brother Dan (Diana) Martin, his long-time friend Joan Galbavi, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerald Martin, and sister Germaine Wilcoxson.
