Leonard L. Osier, 92, of New Harbor, passed away peacefully on May 9th at his home just a few feet from where he was born on January 29th, 1921. He was the youngest child of eight born to Frank and Belle (Poland) Osier. Leonard attended the former Mavooshen School on New Harbor Hill and graduated from Bristol High School in 1938 as Valedictorian of his class. Receiving a half-tuition scholarship and working in the college library, he graduated from Colby College in 1943 with a degree in History. After college, Leonard pursued a career teaching high school and held positions in Northeast Harbor, Milo, Kingfield, Thomaston and at Lincoln Academy. In the beginning, he was often one of only two or three teachers employed by the school to teach the entire curriculum. Later, Leonard taught mainly science courses, and for many years proved his bravery as a driver education instructor. He retired from classroom teaching in 1972 after 30 years as an educator. Although Leonard enjoyed teaching, his main passion was his summer cottage business.
