Leland Robert Bjorklund (1940-2022)
Lee Bjorklund passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022. Lee taught painting and drawing at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) as well as other art schools in the country. Lee held many academic and administrative positions in the arts. He was also a fine artist in his own right who did shows at the Peter M. David Gallery in Minneapolis as well as many galleries throughout the country.
His work is included in many corporate collections throughout the country, including the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. He earned his BA and MFA from the University of Minnesota. Lee was born in Henning, Minnesota, June 20, 1940.
Lee has travelled extensively in south Asia and Japan—otherwise known as a guided tour by the U. S. Navy. We have both spent time in Europe, but more recently (the last ten years), the trips have included places like New Guinea, Tibet, Mali, Thailand, Burma, and the Amazon. In short, a half dozen trips to South Asia, another half dozen trips to Africa with Venezuela and Europe squeezed in-between. We’ve travelled up the Nile and spent a month of bush-whacking in South Africa.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Bjorklund. He will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, my dear Lee.
