LCDR, Donald E. Foster, USN, Ret., 79, passed away at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor after a brief battle with cancer on the afternoon of January 29, 2011. Born in Lynn, MA on March 6th 1931, he was the son of Carl and Patricia (Ringer) Foster. Donald served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, most of this time was spent in EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received his Commission as an Ensign in 1962, and retired from the service in 1972 as a Lieutenant Commander. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he went to work as a commercial fisherman, lobstering for over 30 years. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Terry Foster; and by his infant son, Wayne, who died at the age of 17 months as a result of an automobile accident. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia (Patti) Foster of South Bristol; four children, Emma Finn of Portland, OR, Paul and his wife Sally of Belfast, Pamela Colson and her husband Ralph of Swanville, ME, and Scott and his wife Sandy of Auburn; one sister, Joyce Parmelee of Damariscotta; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. At Donald’s request, there will be no service.
