Kenneth E. Olson, age 87, longtime resident of Hibbing and Side Lake, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in his home. He was born February 24, 1923 in Bear River, MN the son of Elmer and Emma (Nelson) Olson. He attended school in Togo, and graduated from Grand Rapids High School at the top of his class. Kenneth went on to study carpentry for two years. A veteran of the US Army, Kenneth was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Dolores (Flank) Ervasti on June 20, 1959 in Hibbing.
Kenneth worked as a self-employed contractor, and craftsmanship was of highest importance. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Carpenter’s Union and Guild, the Hibbing Elks and Moose clubs. He was an outdoorsman, card player, and he liked using reclaimed materials to make various projects.
Kenneth is survived by his wife: Dolores; three children: Darrell (Mary Jo) Ervasti of Sauk Rapids, MN, Candace Ervasti of Minneapolis, and Leanne Ervasti of Hopkins, MN; a sister: Myrna (Donald) Persson of Hibbing, six Grandchildren: Aaron, Nathan, Simone, John, Fletcher, and Raegan; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: two brothers: Ernie and Allen; and a sister: Alice.
