Age 77, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was born on December 25, 1931 in Detroit, MI the son of John and Josephine (Szypanik) Matlock and was educated in Detroit area schools and community colleges. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951- 1953 leaving the service with the rank of Sgt. He worked briefly at Ford Motor Company, before becoming a police officer for the City of Detroit in 1953 where he was employed for 13 years until becoming an insurance investigator for AAA until 1971. In 1974 he was employed by the State Corrections Department as a Sgt. in Ionia, retiring in December of 1985. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Ionia and a Life member of the D.A.V. Surviving is a son, John (Karen) Matlock of Southfield; 3 step children, Robert Patrick, Penny Sharp and LeRoy Starks; 2 grandchildren, Jason and Brian Matlock; brother, Arthur (Jeanette) Matlock of Detroit; 2 step grandchildren, Maggie, and Brandon; nieces; and special friends, Lisa and Bill Tompkins. The family would like to thank the Ionia Area Hospice for all of their wonderful care given to Ken during his illness.
