Keith L. Leeman, 82, passed away on December 25th at the Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta surrounded by his loving family. Born in Damariscotta on October 26th 1930, he was the son of Clifford and Winnifred (Smith) Leeman. Keith attended grade schools in Round Pond and graduated from Bristol High School in 1948. After graduation he worked in the woods with his father, and then worked construction jobs prior to joining the U.S. Navy in 1950. He served honorably for 4 years before returning home. After leaving the service he married Irene Swanner, a marriage that lasted 57 years. During this time, they raised their 5 sons while living in Walpole. Hired by Ira C. Darling, he worked the grounds and did building maintenance from 1955 – 1965. When the property was turned over to the University of Maine to become what is now the Darling Marine Center, he stayed on as the maintenance supervisor until his retirement in the fall of 1999. He was a 4H leader and coached Little League Baseball for approximately 13 years. He was also the Assistant Volunteer Fire Chief in South Bristol for many years. Keith had a great passion for hunting and the outdoors in general. He enjoyed camping with his boys, and teaching them to respect and love the outdoors as much as he did. There are countless stories from family and friends that can attest to this. He loved the Boston Red Sox, and spent many hours in the summer listening to games on the radio. He also loved lobster bakes and gardening. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene; sons, Brian and his wife Michelle, Mark and his significant other Mandy, Darryl, David and his wife Tammy, and Eric and his significant other Amy; 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud of.
