Orr’s Island- Keith Earle Alexander Sr, 76, of Lowells Cove Road and also of Waggaman, Louisiana died Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Keith served in Korea and retired as a sergeant from the U.S. Army. He was employed by the U.S. Corps of Engineers as the Head Lock Master of the Harvey Canal Locks in Harvey, Louisiana, retiring after 30 years. Though born a “Yankee” on Orr’s Island, Keith was raised Cajun in the swamps and bayous of Southeast Louisiana. On July 29, 1951 he married the love of his life, Leah, and settled in Louisiana becoming a true Louisiana Sportsman for hunting and fishing. He is loved by many and will be missed by all that knew him in Louisiana. After retiring from the Corps, Keith returned to Orr’s Island to live out his passion as a lobsterman. He loved being on the water fishing and hunting and was an avid woodcarver of water fowl. Keith was known in the Orr’s Island community for his wit, warm smile, hard work and generosity to all. The neighborhood kids will always remember his tractor rides.
The family wishes to thank the ICU staff at Mid Coast Hospital and Keith’s extended family and friends. A very special thanks to his nephew, Adam Baker and family friends, Stewart and Jill Caldwell, Bob and Diana Lederman, Doug Hisgrodt and Laura Walsh.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Leah L. Alexander of Orr’s Island and Waggaman, Louisiana, one son, Keith E. Alexander Jr. and his wife Donna, one daughter, Doris Adams and (James Daw), all of Waggaman, LA, four grandchildren, Keith, III and Kevin Alexander, April Chiasson and Kelly Childs, three great grandchildren, Kason, Jillian and Xander, one brother, Roger Alexander of Maine and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Capt. Roger and Juliette Alexander, one brother, Emore Alexander and two sisters, Priscilla Baker and Juliette Oddo.
