Kathryn R. (Kay) Sharp, 91, formerly of Hannibal, died at 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, KS. Kay was born to Lillian Jones Wise and John C. Wise on April 14, 1921, in West Frankfort, Illinois. She attended Franklin County Illinois schools, the University of Illinois, and Hannibal -LaGrange College. On September 20, 1947, she married John Sharp, in Benton, Illinois. The couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last month. In 1955, the Sharps moved to Hannibal, where they would make their home for 50 years. Kay and John co-owned Walkupâaa„¢s Pharmacy until 1968, when they purchased Breeding Transfer and Storage. They retired in 1990, and moved to the Kansas City area in 2006. Kay was always on a quest for personal betterment, whether taking classes or perfecting her golf game or swimming stroke. An avid golfer, she cherished the many annual group golf trips she and John took with dear friends. She was a member of the First Christian Church, PEO, Levering Hospital Auxiliary and the Hannibal Woman’s Club. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts and AVENUES. She is survived by her husband, John, of Lenexa, KS; daughter Barbara (David) Nicely and her grandchildren Blair Nicely and Christopher Nicely of Kansas City; nieces and nephews David (Debra) Walkup of Hannibal and Susan Walkup of St. Louis, and Billie June Gray of Illinois and Scott Dudley, Michele Haddock and Jane Vernon of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Ralph Wise, James Wise and sisters Millicent Montoto and Helen Dudley.
