Karen Ann Erickson, age 64, of St. Anthony passed away peacefully at Abbott Northwestern Hospital on Sunday, September 8, 2019.
She was born June 6, 1955 in Minneapolis to Archie and Helen (Anderson) Erickson and was the oldest of three children.
Karen was a lifelong resident of Minnesota. She graduated from Edison High School in Northeast Minneapolis. From there she went on to Bemidji State College, Anoka-Ramsey Community College, and ultimately received her Bachelor of Science degree from Mankato State University. She worked as a K-12 Special Education teacher at Brainerd State Hospital, in the Belle Plaine Public Schools, and in Glencoe. After moving to Glencoe, she taught for many years at Hutchinson Public Schools ISD 423. She was loved and adored by her students and colleagues, and made lasting friends everywhere she went.
In 2008, Karen had a major stroke that left her partially paralyzed. Even though this event concluded her teaching career and saw her move into the St. Anthony Health Center, it did not dampen her outgoing personality one bit.
Karen lived her life as a teacher, educator, and friend. She will be remembered for her humor, her ability to effortlessly make friends, exceptional crafting skills, and her love of animals, shopping, and collecting everything and anything frog-themed.
Karen is survived by her mother, Helen Erickson, St. Anthony; two brothers, Brian Erickson, St. Anthony, and Karl Erickson and partner Denise Johnson, Maplewood; one nephew, Tyler Johnson; her aunt Janet Brisker, Trinidad CA, and her uncle Howard Anderson, Wahkon MN; and numerous cousins, students, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Archie Erickson and grandparents, Erick and Elina (Viikus) Erickson, and Knute and Mamie (Dahlstrom) Anderson.
Karen was a part of many families, and we will all miss her.
