Judith Catherine Siegmund Smith
June 21, 2013
Judith Catherine Siegmund Smith, 68, of Windham, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a yearlong battle with brain cancer. She was born, to the late Elizabeth and Theodore Siegmund.
Growing up, as the daughter of a US Navy Captain, Judy lived all over the US and Europe. She graduated from Purdue University with a BA in Fine Arts and completed her MA in art education at Ohio State University. After her first career in art education, Judy switched gears into a successful second career in computer sales. She retired in 1996.
Judy embraced the world with an open heart and a sense of wonder. Her adventurous spirit took her from the Amazon to Alaska, admiring the gifts of nature and interesting people along the way. She was a thoughtful listener with a big-hearted laugh, a beautiful smile, and a genuine fondness for people. In addition to her lifelong interest in art, she loved a well-told story, gardening, Scrabble and a good beer. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to a family who always knew they could count on her for a kind word, a big hug or a playful, conspiratorial smile.
Although Judy and Doug lived in Nashville, TN for over 30 years, they split their time between Nashville and Windham over the last 12 years. Recently, they left Nashville to live in Maine for good.
She is survived by her husband Wm. Douglas Smith of Windham; two daughters, Gina and her husband Thomas D’Eletto of Maplewood, NJ, and Christina and her husband Silvio (Zobi) Wolter of Magdeburg, Germany; and two grandchildren, Julia and Michael D’Eletto.
