Joyce Howard, 91, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Warren, MN, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 17, 2016, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Joyce Virginia Golden was born on August 18, 1924, in Warren, the daughter of Harold and Mabel (Johnson) Golden. She graduated from Warren High School in 1942. On October 30, 1943, Joyce was united in marriage to Art Howard in Crookston, MN. They made their home on a farm west of Warren. She was a homemaker and a true life partner with her husband in their farm and businesses. Art died on January 22, 1990. Joyce moved to Grand Forks in 2005.
Joyce was a lifetime member of Grace United Methodist Church. She belonged to Eastern Star and was active in Homemakers Club. She bowled in the Tuesday Coffee League for many years. She was also the surviving member of the Boxville Birthday Club, which lasted nearly 73 years. Art and Joyce were honored as Outstanding Farm Couple by both the Red River Valley Winter Shows and the University of Minnesota.
Left to mourn her passing are four children; Bob Howard of Warren, MN; Paul Howard, Kathy Ellis and Les (Patty) Howard all of Grand Forks, ND; two grandchildren, Jesse Whitnall and Sarah Howard; sister-in-law, Lila Golden; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art; brother, Bud Golden; sister, Cecile Grappe; and son-in-law, Col. Bob Ellis, USAF (ret).
