Jonathan Willard Rolfe
Jonathan “Jonny” Willard Rolfe, 45, one of the kindest and most loving people in the world, made the decision to end his life on December 18, 2015. Janelle Lavallee, his life partner, lost the love of her life, the Rolfe family lost a special son, brother, and uncle, and his extended family and friends lost a loving and dear man. Jonny will be remembered for his infectious laugh and his kind and generous heart.
Jonny was born on September 30, 1970 in Norwalk, CT, the son of the late Gerald Rolfe and Joan (Steeves) Rolfe. He moved to Pownal, ME at the age of one. He attended Pownal schools and was a graduate of Greely High School in Cumberland ME and The University of Maine.
He worked in building and carpentry all of his life, most recently as a self-employed contractor with Todd Harrison Builders of Durham. His passion, which he did since his teens, was set building for stage production; he did this for shows at Greely High School, at UMaine, for Muhlenberg Summer Theater, for Austrian Summer Theater during a year studying abroad, and for the Maine State Music Theater in Brunswick. He eventually made his way to a career in set building for Broadway and Off Broadway shows and television sets in NYC, including productions such as STOMP, Tap Dogs, many Dick Clark New Year’s Eve shows, including MTV’s Millennium show in Times Square, Saturday Night Live, Oprah Winfrey, Phil Donahue, many award shows, and numerous other productions. He also spent time traveling the country building sets for bridal shows. Unfortunately, ABBA never called to offer him the backup singing role he always wanted.
Jonny was the first to lend a hand or a sympathetic ear, and loved to cook for those he loved. He was an intelligent and well-read man, always up for conversation and debate.
