Johnnie “Lady Jama”  Ree Smith,  60, transitioned on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Johnnie Ree Smith aka “Lady Jama” was born on June 7, 1962 in Holly Springs, MS to John Louis Smith and Marlean Smith. She departed this world and entered into eternal peace on Sunday, January 29, 2023 in the comfort of her home.

Johnnie accepted Christ as her lord and savior at an early age, joining Rising Star church in Holly Springs, MS. She later renewed her faith and joined West Antioch #1 Baptist church in Senatobia MS.

Lady Jama was well known near and far for her extremely unique talents as a distinguished disc jockey (DJ). Her musical career began as a disc jockey in high school where she went to play music on weekends at Club Harlem. From there she set the musical industry ablaze, sharing her talents at nightclubs, various radio stations, blues shows, horse shows, and many other events.

She leaves to cherish and honor her memories her sisters Oralean Sholar of Byhalia MS, Laura Miller of Sacramento CA, and Edna Boyd of Holly Springs MS. Additionally, she leaves to cherish her memories her loving nieces Tokela Smith and Dr. Bianca Smith. While she had no biological children of her own, she leaves behind her daughter figure Noelle Merriweather along with her grandchildren in love Nick and Beau. She has a host of aunts, uncles and cousins that wish her a farewell and will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father John Louis Smith, her mother Marlean Holloway Hughes Smith, and her brother Henry Lee Harris.
