John William Gibson passed away in peace September 17, 2019 at the age of 92. John was born in Mobile, Al. to Jesse Bruce and Dixie Mae (Rodgers) Gibson.  He resided In Hurley and attended Moss Point High School.  He was a proud veteran of WW II joining the Merchant Marines at the age of 17. He briefly resided in Hurley after his service, moving to Texas where he pursued a career with Pipefitter’s Local 211 as a journeyman pipefitter and later elected as Business Agent.  His last pipeline inspection was at the age of 82 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He was a devout  Christian and loved his church family as member of First Baptist Church of Gautier. He had an amazing work ethic, enjoyed an active life, loved his family and friends,, and never met a stranger. He was an avid fisherman and loved all animals.  Upon returning home to Mississippi, he resided in Gautier where he reacquainted with family and friends.  He loved to knock on your door with a quart of oysters and to spend evenings with his brother-in-law, Hal Vaughn, at the American Legion dancing with the ladies.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dixie, two brothers Bill and J.B.,; and a sister, Hazel Martinez Vaughn.  John is survived by his daughters Mary (Gibson) Flint and Sherry (Gibson) Fowler and son John William Gibson, Jr., many grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of which he loved dearly.
