John Wesley Warkentin of St. James, Mo. passed away at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. on May 25, 2014. John Warkentin was 87 years, 7 months and 2 days of age.
John Warkentin was born on October 23, 1926 in Hydro, Oklahoma to his parents: John J. and Bertha Kliever Warkentin.
John enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 years. He served his Country for 32 years, retiring in April 1976 at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, Point Muga CA. He was very proud of the years he served his Country, as well as being able to wear the uniform he retired in.
John is survived by his companion of 17 years; Shelby Hitch of St. James, Mo.; three sisters: Glenna Nemcovsky; Jolene Cross and brother-in-law Ron Cross of Hutchinson, Kansas; and Dolly Seibel and brother-in-law Wally Seibel of Wichita, Kansas and a sister-in-law; Carolyn Warkentin of Liberty, Iowa. As well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents: John J. and Bertha Kliever Warkentin and one infant sister Norma Jean Warkentin and a brother Leroy James Warkentin.
John never had any children of his own, however when he met Shelby he claimed her five children and grand children as his own, and enjoyed living in Missouri to be near many of them.
