John T. Stimac, age 89, of Michigan and formerly of Nashwauk, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2016 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, MI.
He was born December 23, 1926, in Nashwauk, the son of Steve and
Katherine (Sterbenz) Stimac. A Veteran of the US Army, John served in the European Theatre during World War II. After returning from WWII, John was united in marriage to Evelyn Glatch.
John was employed by Cleveland Cliffs over his entire work career – first in Minnesota, and then transferring to Ishpeming, Michigan in 1963 – until his retirement in 1983. John and Evie moved to Florida in 1985 where they enjoyed the sunshine. In 1995, they moved to Brighton, MI to be closer to family. John enjoyed outdoor activities, watching sports, working with his hands, and helping anyone that needed a hand.
Family, faith and friendships were always very important to John and Evie. They had numerous friends in their Brighton neighborhood, many of whom became extended family. John and Evie dearly treasured these relationships.
John was affectionately known by the neighborhood children as “Papa John.
