John L. Luke, 90

John was born in Millinocket, Maine to John Luke and Elizabeth (Leet) Luke. He served during WWII in the US Navy from 1943-1946. He graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, and Husson College in Bangor.

John married Phyllis Frederick in 1948. He was employed at Eastern Auto Supply in Bangor & Calais, Bill Varney’s Auto Supply, and Bob Foster’s R.H. Foster in Machias & Hampden.

John was a great athlete and enjoyed playing basketball in High School, Prep School and Semi-Pro. In 1955, when John was playing for the Calais Chiefs, he got to play with Bob Cousy of the Boston Celtics. He love bowling and golf with his “Good Buddies”. John was a member of the American Legion Falmouth Post #164.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis, whom he met at MCI, his adored daughters, Ann and her husband Warren Baldwin, Merritt Island, FL, and Mary and her husband Rocco Toppi III of Portland, his wonderful grandchildren, Jane (Daniel) Henzerling, San Francisco, CA, Katy (Roy) Rice, Westbrook, Nicolas Cormier, Old Orchard Beach, Rocco IV (Maria) Toppi, Windham, and Anthony Toppi, Boston, MA. He also had five darling great-grandsons, Samuel Henzerling, Luke and Jacob Rice, and Enzo and Nico Toppi. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Katy Perry, and his beloved daughter Leslie Cormier.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Barron Center, especially all the “angels” on the Munjoy Unit. They were all loving and caring.
