John James (Jack) Hayden DDS, 90, of Falmouth passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at The Maine Veterans Home on January 29, 2015. Jack was born to the late Daniel J. Jr. and Margaret F. (Donahue) Hayden in Portland, ME on March 17, 1924.

Jack is a 1942 graduate of Cheverus High School, 1949 graduate of Holy Cross College, and 1953 graduate of St. Louis University Dental School. He served in the Army during WWII from 1943-1945 where he was a tail gunner on a B-17. After graduating from dental school he returned to Portland where he practiced dentistry for nearly 50 years.

Jack grew up on Munjoy Hill, was an avid sports fan, and renowned fast-pitch soft ball pitcher, winning multiple state championships. He spent many hours with his friends at Riverside Golf Course working on his game and forging endless friendships. Later in life his true passion was tennis, which he practiced non-stop. This also allowed him to spend countless days on his beloved Peaks Island where his conversational skills were legendary. Through his life, he maintained an unmatched love of Ireland and its people, especially his wife Peggy of Galway. He made over 30 trips to Ireland.
