John “Jake” Monteith Hocking, age 73, longtime resident of Hibbing died Monday, February 15, 2010 in the Fairview University Medical Center – Mesabi. He was born April 18, 1936 in Hibbing, MN the son of James and Lois (Hancock) Hocking.
Jake worked as a diesel mechanic for Sabin Bros. Transport and Construction, and as a diesel mechanic, and later, a foreman at Eveleth Taconite.
He is survived by two children: Cindy (late George) Sabin of Hibbing, and John (Arlene) Hocking of Marietta, GA; a granddaughter: Stacy (Chris) Roberts; two great-grandchildren: Marcus and Courtney Roberts; six siblings: Georgia (Leonard) Hydukovich of Hibbing, James Jr. of Nashwauk, Lois (Mark) Andrican of Hibbing, JoAnn (Dennis) Gooden, of Virginia, Jerry of Gilbert, and Joe of Indiana; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend and companion: Nancy Zbacnik.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
