John Nicholas “Jack” Tomatz, age 74 of Hibbing died Thursday, June 27, 2019 in his home, with his daughters by his side. He was born January 5, 1945 in Eveleth, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Begich) Tomatz, was a graduate of Eveleth High School Class of 1963, and graduated from Bemidji State University. Jack served in the Vietnam War with the United States Navy and was discharged from service in June of 1973. He married Renee (Sherman) on June 17, 1972 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hibbing and they resided in Hibbing. Jack was employed by the Hibbing Public School District prior to working at Hibbing Taconite. He enjoyed all things outdoors, hunting, fishing, was a music aficionado, and cherished time spent with his family.
Jack is survived by his daughters: Dawn (Zak) Spaniol of Ham Lake and Holly Tomatz of Hibbing; grandchildren: Zane, Talan, Cy, Rain, and Stone Spaniol and Cecelia Hyatt; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father: Al Petrich; his wife: Renee; and brother: James Thomas.
