Age 84, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2011. He was born on August 10, 1927 in Sunfield the son of Merle and Lila Sayer. John worked for 50 years as a John Deere mechanic at Welch Hardware in Sunfield and then Lich Farm Service in Portland. He enjoyed square dancing, gardening and watching the Detroit Tigers. Following a lifelong dream, John received his pilot’s license and was proud of his woodworking. He served as the Assistant Fire Chief in Sunfield and with his wife, Ione managed the Shoreline Lake Condominium Assoc. for 3 years. John was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Ione Sayer; parents and his siblings Robert Sayer and Helen Marsh. Surviving are his children Steve (Brenda) Sayer of Auburn, IN and Diane (Larry) Carr of Bancroft; grandchildren Barbara (Ken) Holz of Holt, Scott J. Sayer of Battle Creek, Cindy Bloomer and Shawn McIntyre both of Lansing; 8 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; brothers-in-law Melvin (Betty) Rairigh and Vivian (Marge) Rairigh.
