John Joseph “Guba” Gobats, age 65 of Lake Vermilion – Tower died Monday, August 6, 2012 in the St. Mary’s Medical Center Hospice in Duluth. He was born March 24th, 1947 in the Virginia Municipal Hospital the son of Joseph George and Delores Mae (Rossi) Gobats. John attended Washington School for 2 grades, Marquette School through the 8th grade and graduated from Virginia High School in 1965. From the time John was 9, he worked for Nicks Wood Products which his uncle Nicholas Gobats owned. He also worked one summer for Al Johnson Construction Company building Minntac. After high school, he attended 2 years at Mesabi State College and graduated from Control Data Institute in Minneapolis, where he then worked for 26 years. He moved to his cabin on Lake Vermilion at age 46 and started a new life and a new career.
