He worked at Brown Shoe in Steelville for a few years and other odd jobs throughout his life. John loved music, yodeling and enjoyed dancing or “doing a jig.” In his spare time, he would tinker with lawn mowers and in his younger days would go fishing..
He is survived by two sons, Jim Ruth of Steelville, MO and John E. Ruth Jr. and wife Brenda of OK; three daughters Terry Scott of Steelville, MO, Joy Stuffelbean and husband Larry of Springfield, MO and Shirley Norton and husband Vess of OK; two step-sons Jerry Bayless and wife Sandy of Osceola, MO and Bobby Harris and wife Tonja of OK; one step-daughter Sharon Adams of Springfield, MO; one step-son-in-law Donnie Foster of MO; twenty-three grandchildren; sixty-four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruby Emma Ruth; step-daughter Rosetta Foster; daughter-in-law Jeannie Ruth; and sons-in-law Earl Starks and William Scott.
