John Alvin Besserud, the son of Anna (Glennen) and Albert Besserud, was born on April 30, 1934 in Roseau, MN. He attended country school in Oak Hill (rural Roseau) and later graduated from Roseau High School in 1952 where he was active in football and hockey for the Roseau Rams. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge. He and Mavis (Erickson) were married on December 22, 1953. They lived in Roseau where John worked on the farm, at Knute Grahn’s O.K. Machine, and later for the State of Minnesota Highway Construction Department. They moved to Crookston in 1957 and later to Thief River Falls, MN continuing his work with the Highway Department for 47 years.
