John Anthony Payne, 70, of Sykesville, Md., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.  John was born October 16, 1948 in Washington, D.C. 

He retired from the City of Rockville as a general mechanic where he focused on electrical system diagnosis and repair.  Prior to that, he was employed as a general mechanic for various local Dodge and Plymouth dealerships. He grew up in the Silver Spring/Wheaton area of Montgomery County, attended Northwood High School and Montgomery College where he received an Associate Degree in Art. He continued his art studies at the University of Maryland.  Earlier in his life John attended St. John the Evangelist Church in Silver Spring and the church school through eighth grade.  He was a Boy Scout in Troop 466 sponsored by the church.  His primary hobby was fishing and he could be found on Triadelphia Reservoir over summer weekends with friends and relatives. 

John was fun loving and greatly enjoyed the holiday celebrations and summer parties hosted by his brother and sisters where he playfully interacted with his many nieces and nephews.  He especially enjoyed his family summer car trips to Sedalia, MO where he got to see his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins on his mom’s side.

John is survived by his daughter Sara Hale and two grandchildren of Upperco.  He is also survived by his brother Art Payne of Millsboro, DE, his sister Mary Reed of Finksburg, his sister Theresa Sluger of Mount Airy and his sister Margie Fazio of Germantown. John also leaves behind five nieces and seven nephews to cherish his memory.
