Jane Thompson Tukey (AKA Janie, Jane from Maine} died on April 12, 2016 at Piper Shores in Scarborough. She was born May 18, 1918 the daughter of Dr. Philip and Jennie Means Thompson of Portland and South Portland.
As a child Jane felt sorry for Henry Wadsworth Longfellow Statue in Longfellow Park, as he sat all alone during the cold winter months, so she would take him warm donuts from home. She graduated from Portland and Deering High Schools in 1935. Her college years took her to Pine Manor with graduation from Simmons College School of Home Economics in 1939, and The Prince School of Retailing in 1940.
Jane married the love of her life Philip E. Tukey on July 25, 1942. As a Fighter Pilot in the Army Air Corps, he was deployed to England and Jane returned home to her family.
