Phippsburg – James R. Dooley Jr., 58 of Phippsburg died Friday October 15, 2010 at the Togas Veterans Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born in Tucson, Arizona on September 14, 1952 a son of USAF Master Chief James R. Sr. and Weda N. Dooley.

He graduated from Southern Illinois University in O’Fallon, IL in 1972. After college Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served 15 years doing what he loved most, flying in P3 aircraft as an Airborne Acoustic Analyst, listening for submarines during the Cold War. His duty stations included VP-31 at Moffett Field, CA; VP-26 at Brunswick, ME; and CPW-2 at Barber’s Point, HI. He retired from active duty in 1988 due to his illness.

Jim will be greatly missed by those who knew him for the loving, positive, adventurous, and courageous man that he was. He handled his illness with great dignity and grace. He was a man who loved the outdoors, skiing, photography, fly, tying and fishing, working with his hands, and a good bottle of wine. He loved his family, friends, pets, especially his dog, “Grandy”

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Fleet Reserve Association, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

He was predeceased by his father, James R. Dooley, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife, Paula of Phippsburg; a daughter, Erin P. Middleton and her husband Daniel and 4 grandchildren, Lexi, Skyler, Patience and Phoebe of Dresden; mother, Weda N. Dooley of Mt. Home, Idaho; his twin, David M. Dooley of Phippsburg and his wife Gloria of Auburn; brother, Dennis R. Dooley and his wife Laura of Meridian, ID; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and one great nephew.
