Obituary
James John Vehige, of Wright City, MO. passed away at the age of 79 at his home with his family gathered around him on Wednesday, June 28, 2017. He was born to Henry and Cecelia Vehige (Burkemper) on September 6, 1937 in St. Charles, MO. James was united in marriage to Carolyn Wolf on May 7, 1957 at Assumption Catholic Church in O’Fallon, MO with a visit to Dog Prairie Tavern after the service. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage and to this union were eight children; Edward, Joan, Debra Ann, David, Jackie, Linda, Margaret and Carol Jean. Jim was a life long farmer and former co-owner of Vehige Feed Store. Jim founded J & C Construction of Wright City, MO and was a union carpenter for many years with Local 32. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2134. Jim served his community for 45 years as a member of the Wright City Lions Club and he enjoyed providing countless hours of entertainment as the band leader for Jim Vehige and the Melody Makers for nearly 25 years. He later played the keyboard with Rich Helton & The Circle of Friends band for over 10 years. He was an avid Cardinal’s fan and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of his large family. He was preceded in death by his two grandsons; Cody Rohan and Chad Lewis, his parents; Henry and Cecelia Vehige, brothers; Clem, Leander, Alphonse and Albert Vehige and sisters Helen Halter and Marie Schneider. Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn Vehige nee Wolf of Wright City, eight children; Edward (Mary) Vehige, David (Deborah) Vehige, Jackie (Robbie) Stewart, Debra Ann (David) Neill and Linda (Pat) Case all of Wright City, MO, Joan (Chris) Heil of Rogersville, MO, Margaret (Bob) Michael of Winfield, MO, Carol Jean (Steve) Rohan of Wellsville, MO, one sister; Lorraine “Bobbi” Routon of Bloomington, IN, fourteen grandchildren; Daniel and Eric Neill, Andy Heil, Christi (Jon) Gibson, Dale and Jessica Vehige, Brian and Sean Stewart, Tyler and Dylan Michael, Kyle Lewis, Mason, Cooper and Layne Rohan, three great-grandchildren; Jacob Gibson, Loretta Uptegrove and Lucille “Lucy” Stewart, four bonus grandchildren; Heather and Michelle Case, Brandon (Jaime) Dennis and Megan (Andrew) VanDyke, six bonus great-grandchildren; Riley Dennis, Taylor Dennis (deceased), Kaden and Dominic Needham, Delanden Edwards, Isabella Dennis. Visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 from 2:00-8:00P.M. and Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon at Pitman Funeral Home in Warrenton. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Warrenton, MO. Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Mass Intentions at Holy Rosary Church or Chad Lewis Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Pitman Funeral Home P.O. Box 126 Warrenton, MO 63383.
