James Gunter passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 in his home surrounded by family.

James was born on March 1, 1927, in Laurel, MS, to Mack and Laura Gunter. At the age of 20, James met Mary Valentine and fell in love happily marrying her on January 29, 1947. They would spend a fairytale lifetime of almost 76 years together. Although bitter sweet, their end was a testimony to the love between them. The grief of her loss was too great and he could not go on without her. It would be 17 days after her death that they would once again be together. He left a legacy of love and endurance for all those that knew him.  Together they raised 4 children, Larry, Rebecca, Judy and Brenda.  

 James served his county in the United States Army.  He was a barber by trade and loved people and is known throughout Jackson County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Mack and Laura Gunter; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Gunter; grandson, Jarrod Wasson, great grandsons, Jim Wasson, and Jack Cabrera; siblings, Annie Faye DeAngelo, MD Gunter, Avis Baxter, L. Nathan Gunter, Lily Anderson, Mae James, and Elbert Gunter.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Becky) Gunter of Gautier, MS, Rebecca (Burt) Ryan and Judy Gunter, both of Vicksburg, MS; grandchildren Kelly Christian, Kim (Herman) Watson, Wayne (Shannon) Wasson, Ryan  (Shannon) Fletcher, Jan (Moi) Cabrera, Angela Gunter and  Bo (Brandi) Gunter; great-grandchildren, Analise Bryan, Jake Wasson, Jordan Watson, Garrett Watson, Dylan Wasson, Walker Wasson, Kimberlynn Christian, Durand Christian, Breanna Miller, Taylor Brewster, Gunter Starr, Miley Gunter, Addison Gunter, Luka Jude Cabrera, RJ Fletcher, Luke Fletcher and JJ Fletcher; great-great-grandchildren, Enic, Elijah, Emma Kate, Brody, Brynlee, Jaislyn and Aubrey.
