James “Jim” Donald Bishop passed away peacefully at LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN with his wife, Marlene, by his side.
Jim was born in Fargo, ND on June 6, 1945 to Floyd and Alvina Bishop. He grew up in Long Prairie, MN. He went to a country school in Clotho, MN and he attended high school in Long Prairie, MN. He was an outdoor enthusiast from a young age.
As a young adult, he moved to Argyle, MN, where he was a bus driver for St. Rose Catholic School. He worked at Hubert’s Standard Gas Station and later worked for Safranski Farms.
In 1964, Jim met his wife Marlene. They were married on September 11, 1965. Jim and Marlene raised their 3 children in Argyle; Ronald, Rhonda, and Rachel. After Ron’s graduation, Jim and Marlene decided to move their girls to Warroad, MN. Jim worked for Marvin Windows and Doors from 1986-2008. He was a Department Senior in Double Hung Hardware and later worked in the Maintenance Department until he retired. Jim was very mechanically inclined and meticulous, so working in maintenance was a perfect fit. The word at Warroad’s Marvin plant is, “the tow line has just never operated as smoothly since Jim left”.
Jim enjoyed retirement. He loved to work in his garage. Keeping it neat and organized was his priority. His children and grandchildren would often say, it was so clean you could eat off the floor. He loved to ride his snowmobile to the Northwest Angle, sometimes multiple trips per day, as fast as he could go. He also loved to drive his RZR, putting on many miles a day in the Warroad area (As you can tell from the bald back tires.) He always kept his machines in showroom condition. While driving in his pickup from coffee stop to coffee stop, he listened to Alan Jackson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene, and their two daughters: Rhonda (Jason) Furuseth and Rachel (Collin) Grawberger: his grandchildren: Shanyce, Dayton, Jaret, Tucker, Kerigan, Liv, Taner, and Levi: sisters Edna (Terry) Beach and Dora Loxtercamp: daughter-in-law Connie Bishop, and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his son Ronald James Bishop, his parents Floyd and Alvina Bishop, his mother and father-in-law Elizabeth and John Woinarowicz, and brother-in-law Bob Loxtercamp.
Grandpa Jim is finally at peace, in Heaven with his son Ron. They are surely riding around on their snowmobiles looking for the next radar run, trying to see whose sled is the fastest. They are undoubtedly having the best of times, finally together again!
