James C. Dilios, 86, of Windham, passed away Monday morning, February 1st at Gosnell Memorial Hospice. Jimmy was the son of Christos and Ekaterina (Isou) Dilios. He was born in 1929 in Politsani, Albania in the Northern Epirus region. Jimmy spent his early years in Albania taking care of his mother and siblings while his father went to the United States to provide a better life for his family. This separation proved to be permanent after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
Keeping a promise he made to his mother, Jimmy and his younger brother Bill set out to join their father in the United States. It took three escape attempts over the mountains, but finally in 1957, Jimmy and Bill reunited with their father in America, joining him and eventually taking over the operation of Christy’s Restaurant on Cumberland Avenue in Portland. It was here where Jimmy met his wife Jean and daughter Laurie.
