Irvin H. Eckeard, Sr. of Denton, MD passed away at Complete Care in Annapolis on Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was 78 years old.
Born in Cherry Hill, NJ on June 3, 1944, Mr. Eckeard was the son of the late Robert Henry Eckeard and Mabel Mae Schmitt. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Irvin retired from J.R. Smith Inc. where he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for 36 years. During his retirement he enjoyed feeding the squirrels, playing his guitar, and taking weekly car rides to look for deer.
Mr. Eckeard is survived by his three daughters: Betty Jo “B.J.” Devers (Kevin), Cheryl Lynn Getchell (Scott), and Dawn Marie Northam (John) all of Denton; his son, Irvin Henry “Hank” Eckeard, Jr. (Sandy) of Denton; a brother, William Eckeard (Sissy) of Smyrna, DE; two sisters, Ida May Walkley and Rose Weber (Calvin), both of Townsend, DE; 12 grandchildren: Raymond Devers (Kesley), Richard Everage, Jr., Brandon Eckeard (Amber), Lindsey Wade Eckeard, Christopher Devers (Jordan), John Wayne Northam, Jr. (Katie), Brooke Thomas, Kyle Getchell (Shelby), Ashley Ray (Lawrence), Tyler Devers (Kristina), Austin Eckeard, and Patrick Cesarini; 16 great-grandchildren; and a very special companion, Judith McFerren of Denton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra M. Eckeard, who died December 19, 2018, and a brother, Dutch Schmitt.
