Irene Sarah Miller, the daughter of Anna (Anderson) and Burton Dwight Bassett, was born on November 26, 1912 in Roseau, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in Spruce Township of Roseau County. She and Albin Miller were married on September 25, 1932. They farmed in Malung Township and rural Badger, MN. Irene worked at the Tveit’s Dime Store and Langlie’s Hartz Grocery Store. Later, in 1957, they moved to Aurora, MN where Irene worked in a local grocery store and sold Avon. After their retirement in 1970, they moved back to Roseau.
Irene enjoyed knitting, quilting and working at the Methodist Fair Stand. She was active in United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aide. She was a charter member of the Roseau Hospital Auxiliary.
Irene Miller passed away on August 20, 2005 at the Sheltering Oaks Manor in Roseau at the age of 92.
She is survived by her children: Joan (Dr. Carl Johnson) of Havre, Montana, Jon (Vivian) Miller of Roseau and Mary Lou Farr of Rogers, MN; son-in-law, Quentin Grittner of Roseau; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albin in 2004; daughters, Jean Louise and Emilie; son, William; brothers, Leslie, Howard, and Merle; sisters, Nellie and Nina; and son-in-law, David Farr.
